Measured 20km horizontally and 30km vertically, the place has little plains and is quite mountainous. The plains are scattered along the river that runs south, north and west.
Some of the mountains in the city include Gamaksan, Chilbongsan, and Aengmubong. The climate is nearly the same as Seoul; the average temperature in January is £5.4”É, and the average in August is 26”É. The average yearly amount of precipitation is around 1,436 mm, one of the heaviest raining regions in Korea.
Because of steep mountains such as Mt. Gamak and Mt. Cheonbo, streams pass through the central city into Imjin River. The Gyeongwon railroad and a national road between Seoul and Cheolwon pass through the city also.
Songchu Valley and Jangheung Valley are popular as Seoul neighboring parks. The city is famous for intangible cultural heritages such as Yangju Byulsandae and Sonoligut, and there are culture remains such as Hoeamsaji and Demosansung. Especially, the drama `Yangjubyeolsandae-nori`, designated as the Korean important intangible cultural asset, is a drama that satirizes the joys and sorrows of common people and social concerns.
Adjacent to Seoul, Yangju made the first glass greenhouse complex in Korea. It produces the high-quality roses bred on region in an automated vinyl greenhouse, and exports the cymbidium and western orchid. Also, Yangju is the perfect location for raising pear which boasts the exceptionally sweet, juicy, and tender taste.
With the motto of ”°Happy City Yanghju! Going with Citizen,”± Yangju is continuously conducting various activities to become the logistics center for the northward advancement, eco-friendly self-sufficient rural city, and the industrial city co-existing with hi-tech and conventional manufacturing. |
